Habitat House

Twenty-four men and women volunteers from St Paul United Methodist Church worked on a Habitat For Humanity house located on Sasser Road near Flowery Branch during the week of August 10th.  Two of these were "friends of St. Paul" who often assist in our missions activities.  Members of the family who will occupy the home assisted most days.

Our team built the front porch, with rails and balusters. They built the second floor rear deck with rails and stairs that descended to a landing and will continue to the yard.  The team also added soffit on the house front and completed finishing the upper roof area.  Lunch was prepared and delivered to the site by members of our team.  Materials and tools were provided by the Habitat Project Team, although many volunteers brought their own tools.

As part of St Paul's local and regional activity, this longer local mission project was scheduled in addition to the annual international trip to Honduras.  This opened an opportunity for many people who normally cannot travel to Honduras to participate in a week-long mission project.  St Paul’s Missions Team Leader Robert Clayton worked with Habitat Site Coordinator Tim Williams to select this site because the large Habitat project at Cooper Glen off Candler Highway had been delayed.

Clayton called the week “a great mission activity for St Paul” and said “the new family was so appreciative to have a safe and affordable home.”
